Pikachu’s type matchups
These multipliers describe damage from incoming moves. They apply before abilities, held items, weather and other battle effects.
| Matchup | Attacking move type |
|---|---|
| Weaknesses | Ground2× |
| Resistances | Electric½× Flying½× Steel½× |
| Immunities | None from typing alone |
| Neutral | All other move types deal 1× damage. |
This is a main-series type chart, not a Pokémon GO or trading card matchup guide. Alternate forms can have different types.
How to beat Pikachu
- Look for a Ground-type attack in your actual moveset. A Ground-type Pokémon using a Normal-type move does not hit Pikachu super effectively.
- Earthquake is a useful example: it hits Pikachu super effectively without making contact. That avoids the contact trigger for Static.
- Rock attacks deal neutral damage to Pikachu. Rock and Ground are different types, even when a Pokémon has both.
Abilities can change the matchup
Static can paralyze an attacker that makes contact. In modern games, a Pikachu with the hidden ability Lightning Rod is immune to Electric moves; this is an ability effect, not a property of Electric typing.
How to handle Pikachu in Daily Red
Daily Red uses Generation III battle rules. The weaknesses above still apply to this standard form, but Fairy-type matchups do not exist in Gen III.
- Red’s Pikachu carries Light Ball and uses Volt Tackle, Thunderbolt, Iron Tail, and Quick Attack. A Ground type blocks its Electric attacks, but still needs to survive its other moves.
- Ground attacks are physical under Gen III rules. Compare your attacker’s Attack stat and its move’s power and accuracy before choosing it.
- Red’s Pikachu has Static. Gen III Lightning Rod does not grant the Electric immunity found in modern games, so do not rely on that ability to block Thunderbolt.
