Charizard

What is Charizard weak to?

Charizard is especially weak to Rock-type moves, which deal 4× damage. Water and Electric attacks deal 2× damage, while its Flying typing makes it immune to Ground attacks.

This is a main-series type chart, not a Pokémon GO or trading card matchup guide. Alternate forms can have different types.

How to beat Charizard

  • Rock is super effective against both Fire and Flying, producing the 4× multiplier. A Rock move can be valuable even on a Pokémon that is not Rock type.
  • Ice attacks deal neutral damage: Flying’s weakness and Fire’s resistance cancel out. Charizard’s appearance does not make ordinary Charizard a Dragon type.
  • Compare Rock moves’ power and accuracy with your Water or Electric options. A 4× multiplier alone does not guarantee that a move is your best choice.

Abilities can change the matchup

Blaze boosts Fire attacks at low HP without changing Charizard’s defensive weaknesses. Mega Charizard X becomes Fire/Dragon, so this Fire/Flying chart does not apply to that form.

How to handle Charizard in Daily Red

Daily Red uses Generation III battle rules. The weaknesses above still apply to this standard form, but Fairy-type matchups do not exist in Gen III.

  • Red’s Charizard carries Flamethrower, Dragon Claw, Earthquake, and Aerial Ace. An Electric type can threaten it, but Earthquake can punish that switch.
  • Rock attacks are physical under Gen III rules, while Water and Electric attacks are special. Choose using the attacking Pokémon’s relevant stat.
  • Ground attacks normally do no damage because Charizard is Flying type. Its modern Fairy resistance is irrelevant in Daily Red, which uses Gen III types.
