Blastoise

What is Blastoise weak to?

Blastoise is weak to Electric and Grass-type moves, both dealing 2× damage. It resists Fire, Water, Ice, and Steel attacks and has no type-based immunity.

How to beat Blastoise

  • Look for an Electric or Grass attack in your available moves. A Pokémon does not need either type itself to deal super-effective damage with one of those moves.
  • Blastoise’s shell does not give it Rock or Steel typing. Fighting and Ground attacks deal neutral damage to ordinary Blastoise.
  • Grass types resist Water attacks, but an Ice coverage move can make switching them in risky. Consider the moves the opponent can use in return.

Abilities can change the matchup

Torrent boosts Water attacks at low HP, making a weakened Blastoise more threatening. Its modern hidden ability Rain Dish restores HP in rain. Neither ability removes its Electric or Grass weaknesses.

How to handle Blastoise in Daily Red

Daily Red uses Generation III battle rules. The weaknesses above still apply to this standard form, but Fairy-type matchups do not exist in Gen III.

  • Red’s Blastoise has Surf, Ice Beam, Earthquake, and Hydro Cannon. Grass types must account for Ice Beam, and Electric types must account for Earthquake.
  • Electric and Grass attacks are special in Gen III. A high Attack stat will not strengthen them, so inspect your team’s Special Attack before choosing an attacker.
  • After Hydro Cannon successfully hits, Blastoise must recharge on the next turn. Use that opening to attack or switch based on your remaining team.
